Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct, patient-centered care in accordance with established nursing practices, hospital policies, and federal and state regulations. The RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care across various units, including Emergency, Inpatient, Outpatient, and Special Procedures. The RN will collaborate with healthcare teams, physicians, and nursing staff to ensure the highest standard of care and positive patient outcomes. This role may include charge nurse responsibilities and the coordination of staff to ensure the smooth operation of nursing services. This job description also encompasses the role of Per-Diem (PRN) RN and Graduate Nurse (GN) with appropriate supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide direct, patient-centered care, including assessing patient conditions, administering medications, performing procedures, and monitoring vital signs.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
• Document patient care accurately and in a timely manner in electronic health records (EHR) and other required systems.
• Perform patient education, including informing patients and families of treatment plans, procedures, and post-care instructions.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring safe and accurate delivery.
• Respond to emergency situations, including performing resuscitation and life-saving measures as required.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure continuity and quality of care across all departments.
• Maintain infection control practices and ensure adherence to safety protocols and hospital policies.
• Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring that patients’ needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
• Supervise and mentor nursing staff, including LVNs, aides, and support personnel, and provide guidance to ensure safe, efficient patient care.
• Assist with the orientation and training of new staff, promoting continuous professional development.
• Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and educational programs.
• Assist with maintaining inventory and management of medical supplies and equipment.
• Adhere to all safety, regulatory, and compliance standards, including confidentiality of patient information (PHI) and other documentation requirements.
• Utilize glucometer to collect blood glucose as ordered.
• May perform Respiratory Therapy duties as trained, ordered, and/or delegated.
• May be required to float to other areas or take on-call duties depending on department needs.
Qualifications:
• Knowledge of general nursing theory, practices, and procedures.
• Ability to perform clinical skills and use medical equipment effectively.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with physicians, staff, patients, and families.
• Comprehensive knowledge of hospital policies and procedures, including infection control and patient confidentiality.
• Knowledge of the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
• Competency in medication administration, dosage calculations, and intravenous therapy.
• Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and manage complex patient conditions.
• Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and basic computer software applications.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and compliance with continuing education requirements.
Education and/or Experience:
• Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing. Currently licensed by Texas State Board of Nursing or a compact state as a Registered Nurse.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma of Nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), TNCC and PALS, or NRP if no PALS, required for emergency room if RN required within 180 days of hire.
• ATCN, ABLS, ENPC, and S.T.A.B.L.E. strongly encouraged but not required.
• At least one year of clinical experience as an RN, preferably in emergency, trauma, or inpatient care settings preferred.
• Experience in leadership or charge nurse roles preferred.
Language/Reading Skills:
• Communicate verbally and in writing in English.
Mathematical Skills:
• Competent in dosage calculations.
• Basic statistical concepts.
Reasoning Ability:
Responds to unusual or varied situations that not covered by existing standards, procedures and precedents. Ability to work under stressful situations and for extended hours, use of proper body mechanics. Mentally alert at all times. Ability to communicate in written form and verbal communication. Ability to respond to unusual or varied situations with sound judgment and within established protocols. Ability to work effectively in high-pressure or emergency situations and manage competing priorities. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to critically assess patient needs and determine appropriate interventions.
Work Environment:
Ensures the comfort and safety of patients as well as staff. Perform administrative as delegated by Chief Nursing Officer. Ability to adapt to all areas of nursing for staffing needs. Work in a hospital setting with the ability to adapt to various clinical areas based on staffing needs. Ability to ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of patients while maintaining a sterile, efficient, and compliant environment. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts if necessary. Requires standing, walking, and the ability to lift or move patients as needed. Ability to perform physical tasks in a hospital environment, including using medical equipment, lifting, and handling medications.
Additional Information Position Type : Full Time Shift : Day Hourly Wage: $35.82 - $50.00 per/hour
